England lost their first game in Euro 2020 qualification

England has lost 1 – 2 to the Czech Republic on Friday 11-10-2019 in the Euro 2020 qualification tournament. It is their first qualifying loss in 10 years.

The coach of England Gareth Southgate commented this: “Certainly in the last 18 months, that would be the first time we’ve let ourselves down in terms of the level of the performance (…) Now I’m focused on getting a response from them. If we have any thoughts you can just come here, play and win, it doesn’t work that way.”

There was also a situation that English midfielder James Maddison was sent home, because of the illness but was spotted in the casino on the night of the match.

Southgate said about this topic: “Without having had a conversation with James, I can’t comment too much but I’m sure he recognizes now that when you’re involved with England, then there is a different sort of spotlight on you. For any young player coming into the squad, they probably aren’t as aware of that.”
